11th Transmission: Seasonal Shifts [Video/Action] (Action Forward Dated Oct. 13)

[In the mid-morning Luke broadcasts a Video feed through the journal system. He stands squarely in front of the camera and speaks in a clear voice. It was a simple, fairly quick message that was open to anyone willing to listen. The seasons were changing and the first real cold snap couldn't be too far away. That meant...harvest time.]

Good morning everyone, this is Luke Skywalker and like usual I've got quite a lot of things to address. Please bear with me, this might get a little lengthy.

First, as this New Feather Cycle comes to a close I would like to welcome every newcomer to our little purgatory. I know things may seem confusing, and I'd like to offer my help to anyone that needs it. I'm willing to help however I can to make your transition as easy as I can, should you require medical assistance, need help moving heavy things, or even just need someone to talk to, feel free to contact me.

Secondly, I would like to thank Doctor Eggman for his instrumental assistance with the farm. He has been an invaluable help towards keeping everything watered and growing smoothly. His hard work has kept the farm running while I have been preoccupied.

Third, if anyone is available to help this weekend, I would greatly appreciate assistance in bringing in the final harvest of the farm's produce. We managed to actually grow quite a lot, and I'd like to make sure it all gets brought in before the frosts set in. I'll be out there all day on Saturday, and while I have some mechanical aid, more hands or hooves would definitely speed the process up quite a bit. Related to that, the food harvested will be added to shops, as well as preserved and stored where we can manage to find room. I've always felt that it's better to have too much food set aside for emergencies than just enough. [He chuckles]

Finally, I'd like to close with a question, as so many people often do. How do people prepare for winter in your world? I admit that this will be my second winter in Luceti but I've never actually been present for a seasonal shift from autumn to winter. I'm from a desert world, so we have very little in the way of actual winter weather.

Action:

[Saturday, Luke and Eggman are out and about at the farm, doing their best to collect the harvest with a small flotilla of heavily modified training remotes that have Eggman-style arms attached to pick things. Eggman, of course, is doing zero manual labor, but he's programming robots and maintaining them. A Bantha with large buckets is used to transport the food to the village for storage and consumption, as well as a repulsor-sled. If anyone wants to help with the harvest, the Jedi and the Inventor would definitely appreciate the help.]

As for getting ready for winter, getting used to dressing in layers usually helps a bit. I grew up in the mountains so we usually got snow before everyone else.

[Followed by exaggerated loud breathing noises.]

It isn't difficult, most of the harvesting will be done by machine. I need help gathering the food and transporting it more than actually picking it.

How's the weather treated your orchard?

Well, I'd been right. Jack's 'Soul sauce' had been a great base for a plant growth potion, as a symbol of nature's bounty.

Maybe too good.

I poured out roughly a quarter of the potion onto the soil surrounding the plant, and the plant suddenly sprang to life, sprouting rapidly, a small fruit already appearing on it before my eyes...

... and then it promptly burst into a mass of over-ripe mush, rotting before my very eyes, as the plant beneath it promptly toppled under its own weight. Fungal parasites sprung up over its surface, quickly sprouting into sporulent masses that threatened to erupt and send this effect everywhere.

"Ah! Jesus!"

Quickly, I stomped out the rampantly-growing plants, but they sprang up around the sides of my shoe. Cursing, I moved my foot and held out a hand, muttering,

"Fuego."

The rapidly sprouting plants erupted into cinders, and I stomped out the smoldering ashes quickly.

"... Right. Gonna need to dilute that."

[Luke watched from a ways away, having given Harry permission to test...whatever that was...on a few plants. It wasn't going to survive in the cold anyway, and he'd planned on burning the field to fill the soil with fresh ash anyway. He'd read that it'd help keep the earth healthy during the winter]

Um, yea, looks like. Is it supposed to burn like that, Harry?

[Clint can't quite believe that he's seeing a post like this from this particular person but... Luceti is going to break him in all sorts of new ways so he might as well go along with it. Also, he's bored. Inactivity does not suit him when he's used to being constantly on call.]

[Luke smiles at the guy, oddly reminded of someone else]

It'll mostly be lifting and hauling, I think. But more hands will make the work go faster, Mister...?

[No manual labour indeed. Eggman can be seen supervising the harvest, though not actually carrying anything heavier than a screwdriver. Occasionally he catches one of the remotes and tweaks it or just checks it over.

At some point, he'll just be standing back and watching everything that's going on, feeling proud of "his" robots and the grand work they are doing. And yet, it's a strange feeling for him, to be proud of something so utterly harmless. Was this how his grandfather would have felt about one of his own creations?]

[Luke stands over near the inventor, watching the little droids working. It was early and people were just beginning to show up. IT was a pretty impressive sight, honestly. The weird arms hanging off the droids made the repulsors sag, but they clipped pumpkins and other things from vines efficiently.

Luke patted Eggman on the shoulder and grinned]

This worked out really well, you know.

[Voice]

[He sounds more downcast than when they've last talked, but he means what he says.]

Yohohoho! You sound like quite the busy person my friend! Between the harvests, welcoming people, and answering questions. And speaking of questions, I have quite the number of questions for you if you don't mind. Well actually some of them are more like comments, like how new feather doesn't exactly apply to me. Yohohoho!

[As if to prove his point, Brook shows of his bony wings]

Let's see... where to start off? I was curious about this force you speak of. It sounds a bit like a religion which I find rather fascinating as I've never heard of it before. Does it have to do with a form of spiritual energy of some sort? Or is the force more like a greater entity?

Its a term for newcomers, Mister Skeleton.

[He laughs, the merry bag of bones amusing him quite a bit]

The Force? Its...actually an energy field generated by all things. It binds the universe together. So in a sense, its like a spiritual energy.

[He laughs and nods]

And yes, definitely. But it'll have to wait until spring, otherwise the cold might kill them.

[The Spartan remembers the words of Korras Blake. The warning about electricity from the precursors. They had become too complacent.

They needed to correct this. Not just with combat and training.

Even though Daisy did not reply to the post, Luke will see a familiar tall girl working the fields, sometimes glancing at her own hands. The dirt over her hands feels familiar sometimes.]

[Luke had agreed completely, and that was why he'd started this project in the first place. Food and water both needed to be gathered, preserved, and purified. It was entirely wrong to rely on untrustworthy individuals to feed them when they had the means to do it themselves.]

Hey Daisy, come to help?

[Bundled up tighter than the last time she had been to the farmlands Sabriel is actually very happy to be back. She had only caught staggered glimpses of the field as it grew so the changes as the crops grew were quiet extreme and...very satisfying to see. Knowing she had helped make it a possibility made it all the more sweeter.

Rubbing her hands together Sabriel steps over to Luke when she spots him, a warm smile curling her lips as she greets her friend.]

This was a great idea you had Luke, we'll be doing it next year too, right?

[Luke turned to the dark haired girl and smiled openly and without reservation. Sabriel, for all the somber faces she had, was someone he always appreciated having around. She reminded him of Jaina in a lot of ways and ever since they'd spoken about her father, months ago, he couldn't help but want to make her smile. Seeing that banished the chill he'd been feeling in the crisp, autumn air, far more than his robe had.

Remembering what he'd said to Harry earlier, it made it all the nicer.]

Of course. Though I'd like to start earlier, in the spring. I'm really glad you were able to help.

[ On Saturday Ikki shows up in her designated "play" clothes - that is to say clothes that were expected to end up getting dirty by the end of the day - with Soren in tow. She's bouncy and willing to do anything she can manage at her age and size, and came for more than just the harvest.

She did promise to introduce Luke to a certain bird pokemon, after all. ]

[Luke turns when he hears the little whirlwind that was Ikki approaching and waves, a wide grin on his face. He takes a moment to excuse himself from Doctor Eggman and heads over to meet her.]
