The entire war, all the pain and suffering the people of this world have been through is just gone, in an instant. There's no consequences for it at all. It's too perfect and too succinct.

Wasn't that the point of going back in time and stopping it from happening in the first place?

Anakin, nothing is ever so tidy in my experience. Something about all this just doesn't sit right with me.

[He has a very bad feeling about this.]

It's a big change, and honestly I'm not sure what to think of it yet. It's more pleasant than before, though.

"Alright." [Anakin nodded his head. This was feeling a little too close to a lecture, which he wasn't interested in. He wasn't stupid, he knew things usually weren't so tidy, and he'd always trusted someone when they talked about something not sitting well with their feelings. He knew that feeling, his first education with the Force had been learning to trust it with his life all the way back on Tatooine when he'd been a slave child plunk down in the cockpit of a podracer.]

"I'll keep my guard up."

[Lecture wasn't what he'd intended, but Anakin was still new to Luceti. Luke had seen more than a few plans of the Malnosso backfire. Thanks Bil, for that newfound paranoia.]

Good. That's good. [He smiles at his father, laughing wryly.] I hope, though, that it's done. It's been a long time since I've been in a place that's even remotely peaceful.

[Anakin couldn't laugh at that, he succeeded at joining in with a smile, but - and even though he knew Luke didn't hold it against him - he was still the source for a large portion of why Luke's life lacked peace.

He knew Luke wasn't implying that, this was an inference Anakin made himself. But it was true, he was the source for a great deal of disharmony in their home galaxy, and he could not help but be hyper aware of it always.]

"What will you do now- if this peace lasts?"

[He sighed and looked up at the ceiling, thoughtful, if a little pensive.]

I don't know, honestly. The same thing I've always done, I suppose. Try and help make the world around me a better place. That was the point of the farm, after all. And the clinic. It just feels like the right thing to do.

[Anakin hadn't thought much about what he would do now. He wasn't much for planning or forward thinking, for which he was rather famous. He didn't know what he would do other than continue to work on these droids.]

"So... just life without missions."

In a sense, I guess. More time to focus on doing things besides fighting.

[Luke, conversely, was one prone for big plans and grand actions, no matter what. He set things up and did work just because he knew he should. Because it would make life better for someone else.]

Speaking of, how's the work with that Holocron coming along?

"Actually..." [Anakin looked over at the Holocrons he'd placed on another work surface. Place and had not touched since returning to the future.]

"I didn't get very far."

No? Busy with other projects then?

[It sits there, gleaming. Hey, Anakin, come turn me on.]

"Padme and Obi-Wan left." [Some might call 'working through loss' a project, Anakin was inclined to think it was more checking out of reality for a block of time he hadn't really calculated the duration of. And then there was the mission and Padme's re-arrival, and then coming back to the future... However one wanted to look at that period of the recent (and distant) past, Anakin had been preoccupied.]

"I guess I could work on it now."

If you like. I should probably get to work anyway. I'm a little late today, it feels like, and I want to get a lot of stuff covered up before it gets too cold. We had a good harvest this year, but the weather's going to get a lot worse in the next few weeks.

[Anakin hadn't meant to run Luke off, but if Luke had other things he needed to do, Anakin wouldn't place a hold on his time.

He nodded to Luke.]

"Let me know if you need help."

[When Luke was gone, Anakin got up and went to the holocrons. He first picked up the pyramid shaped holocron and turned it over in his hands. He didn't really think much of holocrons before now - he never really had access to them.

He set the pyramid down and picked up the other one. The one that contained a gatekeeper. He might as well start here. He activated it.]

[Luke wasn't running off, it was work and that's all there is to it.

Now, when he activates the Holocron, it comes to life in a brilliant shade of electric blue, warming up with a faint hum. As the sound reaches a crescendo, a figure appears next to Anakin. A hologram, of course, but full sized and in color.]

Good day, master Jedi. What can I do for you?

[Anakin knew what gatekeepers were, sometimes holocrons were used during lessons. But one on one was never an experience he'd had.

The Gatekeeper did not look familiar to him, which wasn't surprising, the Temple housed thousands, or more. That seemed like a place to start.]

"Uh, hello. Who am I talking to?"

[The Gatekeeper folds her arms and studies him, the thousands-year old spirit seeming to size him up.] I am Nomi Sunrider, Grandmaster of the Jedi Order some four thousand years before Master Skywalker’s time. May I ask who I am addressing?

[Anakin assumed that must be a lesson given to all Grandmasters, that sizing up.

It didn't make him nervous. As long he could remember someone had been appraising, slavers, slave masters, pod-racers, Jedi, Sith. It was an experience he was comfortable with.

Though, he's sure he should know that name, even if it was four thousand years old. Weren't at least the names of all the Grandmasters taught at the Temple? History truly was one of his worst subjects.]

"Jedi Knight..." [Oh, then there is the matter of that name. It was clearly indicative of some kind of a connection, and he was about to reveal that to a Grandmaster of an Order that eschewed those kinds of connections. At least that's what Anakin has been taught.]

"Anakin Skywalker."

[The hologram nods, her lips quirking into a vague smile. The spirit currently inhabiting the holocron had actually come from Luke and been a part of Luceti for a time thanks to the machinations of the Malnosso. It was a curious thing, she thought, but she'd spoken with another version of this man before.

And she knew full well who it was. The question was more to gauge his honesty.]

Luke's father, then. A pleasure to speak with you, Knight Skywalker. Or would you prefer Anakin?

[The hologram steps back and hops up onto the workbench, sitting comfortably and easily. She's tall for a human, 5'10" at least, so her legs dangle a bit. Dignity was never her real concern after all.]

What can I do for you today?

"So... Luke has told you about me? About who I am?" [Anakin is slightly derailed from his objective, but Anakin was never good at staying on target if he wasn't comfortable about something. And knowing what Grandmaster Sunrider knew about him would go a long way to making him more relaxed and better able to stay focused.]

You mistake me, Anakin.

[The Grandmaster smiles at him brightly.]

I've met a previous you. The Malnosso have made me walk in Luceti before, seeing through the eyes of Luke. Am I to understand you are a different Anakin?

"Luke hasn't told me much about what you know." [And Anakin hadn't asked that many questions.] "I'm sure there isn't another Anakin Skywalker."

"So... what do you know about me?"

I know what Luke knows. Our consciousnesses were joined by the Malnosso. And that is a rather complicated story, Anakin. One I'm not sure would make much sense even to me.

[She smiles wryly and kicks her feet.]

Besides, you did not wake me up to ask questions about yourself, did you?

"No, I didn't... but..."

[As well as Anakin could withstand a scrutinizing stare, Grandmaster Sunrider's comportment was not what he expected from a Grandmaster. She was very different from Grandmaster Yoda.]

"You're willing to talk to me, still... knowing who I am?" [If there was one thing that was drilled into initiates about Gatekeepers, it was that they could and would deny you access to the holocron, or them, if they felt you were unworthy. And Anakin couldn't imagine he came out favorable from any assessment.]
