[Luke knew immediately what had happened, the moment the Force Bond between he and his old friend was severed. Not dulled, but just cut completely, as it had when someone died. Despite that, he hurried home and called out to the man. No answer came save Artoo's concerned whistle, and the Jedi sighed heavily, though he wasn't sure if it was in relief that Obi-Wan Kenobi was gone, or sadness that he was now alone. Obi-Wan, Mordin, Shepard, and Lupin all gone now. He was once again the last Jedi.

Entering the man's bedroom he shook his head at the neat pile of letters and...a doorknob resting on the bed. His old mentor had such a strange sense of humor, enough to at least bring a weak smile to his face. Luke picked up the letter addressed to him and read, his real hand remaining unsteady, the implant the only part of him completely steady. It echoed so much of what he'd heard from Ben the last time they'd parted. You are among the the finest Jedi I've ever met, the last of the old order, and the first of the new. The hope for the future and a reminder of the past. You were my finest pupil, and I wish I could have had the chance to stand with you now. May the Force be with you, my friend. The memory, five years past now, leaped to the forefront of his mind. Only this time there was no Threepio to spoil the moment, only Artoo sitting stoically and waiting, a sad little chirp the only sound.]

That's right Artoo, Obi-Wan's gone home. Back to Tatooine. [Though, Luke's voice is hollow. He knows what's waiting, and what Ben's leaving behind. The Dark Times, when his father, Obi-Wan's apprentice, Darth Vader had methodically hunted down and killed all but four or five Jedi. Isolation and guilt, followed by a chance encounter with two droids and a young farmboy. Nothing he'd wish on anyone, least of all his truest friend.]

I guess we should deliver the messages, right Artoo?

[Bweep doot deet doot. The droid seemed pretty agreeable, even rolling over to Luke and extending his little claw comfortingly.]

I'm alright, yea. Let's...get this over with.

[After he collects his emotions, a very quiet, stoic Luke Skywalker appears on the journals with Artoo beside him for support. In his hand he has a small leaflet of papers, and his other hand rests on the droid's dome. When he speaks, his voice is firm, but there's a quavering feeling to his words. He's obviously forcing himself to do this.]

Luceti, I regret to inform you that Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi has returned to his home on Tatooine. He left behind a few letters, to Adele Leblanc, Ami Mizuno, Loki Laufeyson, Saori, Beast, Steve Rogers, and Spock. Also, he left a gift for Clint Barton. I will keep them here at House 46 until you are able to pick them up.

And I'm sorry, but I won't be able to cover my shifts at the clinic for a day or two. Please forgive me.

And May the Force be with you, all of you, always.

[Luke shuts down the feed with that. If anyone needs to find him he'll be at home for the next few days, or at Good Spirits having a drink, likely hot chocolate.]

[Loki is a naturally selfish person, but he'd rather think about someone else right now. It means he can put off contemplating his own feelings on the matter.]

Wine seems like a reasonable solution. I shall acquire some.

She'll probably need it.

[He figures, at least, that Loki meant that for Adele and not him.]

She's had a rough time with things like this in the past.

I'd gotten that impression. [And Loki isn't much of one for offering comfort the way the mortals seem to like it, all conciliatory words and gestures of physical affection, but he can drink with the best of them. That's always been one of his preferred coping modes anyway.

Well, that and finding something to destroy so others are as miserable as he is. But he doubts Adele will go for that, and it's an iffy proposition here anyway. Plus he has this strange feeling Rogue would object quite strenuously. So drinking it is.]

And what of you?

[What of me indeed? Luke shakes his head. It's not as though there's much else he can do. He's here, and Obi-Wan is gone. And while giving up isn't in his nature, accepting the facts and waiting for a chance to do something to change them is.]

I'm not a heavy drinker. I wouldn't say no, and I'll probably be at Good Spirits this evening but it's not the most fitting way to remember Obi-Wan. Not the Obi-Wan I knew, anyway.

[Knew. Strange word, that. But he doesn't suppose he'll see the man again. Not really. Dead on the Death Star, faded into the Force on Coruscant, and now returned back to Tatooine to begin the cycle again. Depressing thought, that.]

Hah. Such remembrances are for us, not them.

[More applicable got the dead, but still reasonable in this case. Obi-wan is alive and well elsewhere, but will never know how they mark his absence. And, if Loki has figured correctly, will forget they ever existed.

It's the next best thing to death, really. Compete absence, non-existence. Depressing when he thinks of it that way.]

Fair enough. I have some wine in the kitchen if you'd like. Leftovers from Professor Solus and Commander Shepard's stock.

[He agrees, in a way. It's like a death, and that's an unpleasant thought he just wants to shove aside.]

If we're sharing a glass, certainly. If not, I might as well save my liver for Adele. Not that I think she'll challenge it too much. [More's the pity.]

[A pause.]

I think what I find most bothersome is that those who are removed back to their home realm don't remember. It all feels very pointless.

I'll have a drink, certainly.

[He waves a hand idly and a pair of cups and a bottle of Shepard's favorite floats across the room, pouring itself. He just didn't feel like getting up, not right now.]

And yes, that is more than a little bothersome. I admit to dreading the possibility of disappearing somewhat.

[After all, he'd be leaving Ami for...well...a funeral actually.]

[Loki accepts cups and bottles moving on their own as a matter of course. He's a bit grateful for a glass, all told, and accepts it with grace.]

It's strange, to dread such a thing, even knowing that when it happens we won't no any longer what we're missing.

[He shudders.]

I like this not at all.

Nor do I.

[Luke swirls his cup idly, lost in thought. The idea that there were friends out there...with memories of this place sealed in their heads.]

I'm not sure I believe it, entirely. That the memories are lost forever. Not with as many people who have returned, and retain them.

Mm. Though then it becomes a question of if such memories can exist without the context of this little prison of ours. Perhaps they amount to a paradox in one's home universe.

And the universe does tend to abhor a paradox.

[He broods a bit on this. Well, they would have found it out if the portal had worked. But so much for that. ]

Perhaps. Or a schism in timelines. Obi-Wan and I discussed that possibility as well. Divergent realities, I suppose you could say.

I had considered that as the most likely effect, when we thought the portal would work. There are already good arguments abounding for the theory of infinite multiverses.

Ah well. But so much for that.

Yea. Maybe we'll figure it out one day.

I would hope.

It'll be something to do at least.
