2nd Transmission, Return of the Jedi [Voice]

Good evening everyone, this is Luke Skywalker returning from a mission at the behest of our...keepers. Did I miss anything important? I only have a sketchy time-frame for how long I was outside of the compound. I am alright, it just took longer than I anticipated thanks to the weather.

Next, I would like to extend a greeting to all of the newcomers I've seen wandering around the village. I have not been around very long myself, but should you require assistance I would be more than happy to help in any way that I can.

Finally, the weather here seems to have gotten colder, and it was my understanding that in many other worlds this time of year is considered a feast time or festival? It may seem like a strange request, but I've thought quite a bit about, and gotten curious about the customs and traditions of other homes. If you would be willing to share information about your home's winter culture I would be very interested to hear it.

Other than that, Christmas was a few weeks ago--that holiday I told you about back with the turkeys. There's always parties and stuff, and sometimes gifts are exchanged. Our 'keepers' seem to like that holiday themselves...

[If the pair of fuzzy slippers he found in his room on Christmas morning was any indication of that. Irritation tempted him to burn them, but practicality spared their presence for the time being.]

What sort of gifts are exchanged? and I seem to recall this being considered the changing of the years?

Well, that depends on the person. I had a lovely woman give me a drawing this year, if you want an example. One year, I stole an entire jewelry store for my girl. But, that was Christmas, a little bit of a different holiday.

But yeah, cool things can happen when a new year comes along. A lot of times people just want to have a party--there were a few nice ones around here. I mean, they're nothing like what goes down at the Champs-Elysees annually...but it was still nice.

It takes Ginia few minutes to stop spazzing to herself. Right! Replying! After a false start or two, she decides to go with writing. So much easier and less squeeing that way.]

From my world, there were two holidays in the previous month; Christmas back on December 25th and New Year's Eve on the 31st, the latter being the celebration of the end of one year and the beginning of the new one, the former a day of gift exchanges, spending time with family, and a few other things.

I believe in some cultures, due to a lunar calendar, there's another changing of years coming up, though I'm not sure of the date for that one.

Christmas I have heard about from Mr. Lupin. Is there any particular reason that gifts are exchanged? And what is significant about that date? It was marked quite obviously on nearly every calender I happened to see before being sent out.

Goodwill and friendship? The origins of the holiday have ties back to religious origins, but the meaning has changed over the years. Many still celebrate the holiday as a part of their religion, but others see it as a day to exchange gifts and spend time with family and friends. It's really quite popular and festive.

Hmm... Like many of those who replied, my world also has Christmas and New Year's. Usually Christmas is celebrated through the trading of gifts, and New Year's is marked by a lot of fireworks in the sky.

I usually prefer smaller and simpler ways to celebrate them, though. A good way to spend winter is to have some sukiyaki with your friends, especially since it's very cold during those days.

What is sukiyaki? I'm not familiar with that word.

Ah, I apologize for not explaining it beforehand.

It's a dish most known in a country named Japan - it is a type of stew with beef, vegetables, and other ingredients cooked in a single pot.

When it is done, people sit around the pot share and eat from it. It's quite a sociable experience.

What kind of mission would they send you on? And why would you listen to anything they told you to do?

I was sent to engage in a series of skirmishes against...some sort of winged creatures in the mountains outside the barrier. I opted to cooperate as a means to leave the enclosure and get the lay of the land. Since information is fairly sparse, it seemed like the best way to get it.

I've not considered that idea.
What did you discover?
