14th Transmission: Hamal the Life Day Bantha [Action/Accidental Voice] (Dated the 22nd)

[Quite early that morning, Luke's elf has actually attempted to engage him in conversation, asking quite a lot of questions about his home and what he misses most. The little creature, while irritating, has managed to get him talking. The Jedi isn't looking, though, and the elf has managed to turn on a voice recording for the village at large.]

"That's right, we don't have Christmas back home."

"Aaahhh. Really? Well what tomfoolery do you celebrate then?"

"We call it Life Day, actually. It has a lot of similar meaning to Christmas for humans, but Wookies in particular consider it a sacred holiday. A lot of the traditions are the same, though the names are a bit different."

"Well, that's certainly quite quaint. Do you celebrate with family, or alone like here?"

"Such as it is, yes. Feast are shared and gifts are given, and in general we enjoy each other's company. And I'm hardly alone."

"Such a shame you have no family here. Guess you'll just have to do things Santa's way this year. So..." [The elf squeaks in surprise as Luke grabs him to take away the journal, realizing that it's on. Besides, he didn't like the creepy tone the elf was taking] "...why don't...urk...you put me down...and go introduce people to some Life Day traditions? Give some gifts, share some songs, do..."

[Luke cuts him off]

"Sorry everyone, I didn't mean for this little creep to disturb you. I'll be keeping a closer eye on him in the future."

[And then he cuts off the feed, but not before the elf can take a parting shot...]

"I just hope you don't sing as badly as your sister!"

Later that afternoon!

[Luke can be found riding Hamal the Bantha throughout the village during the afternoon. The Jedi himself is dressed as normal, in the heavy black robes he favors, but perched atop Hamal's head is a Santa hat. The enormous creature trundles along through the snow, it's massive feet leaving deep imprints in it, while two large bags bulging with gifts dangle from it's side. More importantly, Hamal's curled horns have been decorated with strands of tinsel. Hamal seems to be enjoying the looks he's getting, and he's actually quite graceful and good at avoiding stepping on things...for a creature of his size, nearly three meters tall and weighing a half ton. Luke's out to have fun and spread a little Life Day cheer, because he knows all too well just how tough things have been lately.

During the trip around the village, Luke will hand out gifts to anyone that he knows well from bantha-back, and if he doesn't know you, or if he only knows you in passing, he'll still happily give you a gift of candies, cookies, or socks. Of course, you may have to dodge Hamal's licking tongue and slobbery kisses if you get too close...]

He is sixty years old in spirit, I swear. I never thought a day would come when I would be telling someone to loosen up. Though this isn't exactly a holiday with which he is terribly familiar. The next to come, though...

[Valentines day. And she does not want to live through that mess again.]

...I've half a mind to leave the village in February. Just. Hide in the mountains until whatever the Malnosso do them blows over.

Well, Life Day isn't that different.

[Luke nods, his expression darkening by a hair. He remembers all too well how that had gone.]

Truthfully, I've thought the same. Ami and I might do the same thing. It worked out for us when the village lost their memories.

I honestly would not know.

[Star Wars Christmas Special? She's never seen it. Thank god.]

If I speak to Ben about his feelings on the matter and he agrees...might we join you?

I think that would be nice. I'm sure Ami wouldn't mind. That way if something does happen, hopefully it would be contained just to us.

It might be for the best, especially since there is not time enough to gather points for an anti-shift bracelet before then.

True enough. Though do you remember when the Shift began precisely?

[Gears are turning in his head, and he's not really too keen on being forced to find himself in love with Adele.]

It might be better for us if we split up the night before that, and then got back together.

I remember exactly when it began. The twelfth of February. I thought I would be safe to meditate or attempt to meditate with Ben in the battle dome because it was not the fourteenth. The week of valentine's day is when the shift occurs, I think.

[Honestly, she does not care for camping overmuch. But she cares for being in love with someone she does not honestly care for even less, so. Camping in winter it will be.]

That does seem like an excellent idea.

Then we'll have to arrange it well in advance, so that we don't run the risk of becoming entangled. No offense, but I'd rather not...have my feelings altered again. Hopefully we can avoid it, it's an intrusion I am not fond of. As fond as I may be for you and Ben.

So isolation and then meeting to avoid trouble. It's never too early to make plans and preparations.

I shall have to read up on the proper preparations for a winter camping trip.

[As much as she never cared for the idea of camping- roughing it was strange to her and horribly unfamiliar, the idea of lingering in the village and letting her emotions be twisted about is worse still. Lesser of two evils, all that.]

I'll speak with Ben. There should be some caves up in the mountains that are sheltered enough from the elements.

Yes, I'm sure there are. We'll manage something, I'm sure.

[Luke feels exactly the same way about having his emotions twisted up. He'd been lucky with Ami, Valentines having been a catalyst for his feelings. But now. the mere idea of her being forced to care about another twisted his stomach with jealousy. To say nothing of the idea of his own feelings about betraying her.]

We've time enough, even with the next cycle coming up.

[Another round of men and woman and possibly children being pulled into this place. Of people leaving and returning within a week, or not at all. Almost a full year since she's arrived and she has no idea how to handle that.]

That is coming up soon, isn't it?

[He shakes his head sadly. Admittedly, he's already been here a year, longer than that now.]

It's coming up on you and Obi-Wan's first year here, yes?

As of the ninth I will have been here a year.

[And she's not at all certain where the time has gone.]

I did not meet Ben until later in January, so I cannot say how long he was here before then.

A few days. He arrived fairly early in the cycle.

[And Luke still remembered it like it was yesterday.]

Mm. I do not know if it is a day he would wish to mark in any way- well. it's Ben. He wouldn't bother.

[She snorts.]

The marker for your first year here has come and gone, has it not?

Yes, while you were a teenager. November the Seventh. The day we danced in the Battle Dome.

I remember being impressed that you danced so well.

Yea? You...can blame Leia for that. She insisted that I have some sort of courtly training, for formal occasions. Her wedding, in particular.

[He smiles roguishly]

Apparently, I dance a lot better than Han.

Somehow I do not doubt that in the slightest. I cannot imagine Han Solo dancing in a courtly manner, or in any manner at all.

You'd be surprised, he knows how to Corellian Cheek-Step like nobody else.

[He grins, NOT saying that such a dance involved wiggling one's posterior in the air.]

But perhaps you can ask Obi-Wan sometime. I'm sure he's heard of it.

What sort of reaction ought I expect should I ask it of him?

I couldn't say. He'll probably laugh.

I'll make a note of that.

[There was a pause, and for a moment Adele's not certain if it's her place to ask or if it's appropriate at all- and she's seen Luke and Ami being physically demonstrative so it clearly is not an issue in their relationship. It wouldn't hurt to ask.]

He asked me something a bit personal the other day. About our relationship. I'm not certain how to go about discussing it with him and I'll not go into detail but might I just ask you if you and Ami are happier now than you would be in a chaste relationship?
