1st Transmission, A Skywalker sprouts wings [Action, Voice]

Action
[Sometime around midday, not too far from the road, Luke Skywalker finds himself sprawled face-down and shirtless in the grass. It's colder than he remembers it being when he went to sleep, and the ground is wet. With a grunt, the Jedi pushes himself up, surprised to feel an awkward burning sensation in the middle of his back.]

"Geez, where in blazes am I? Artoo, where are we?"

[No answer, naturally]

"Artoo? Oh great...why do I have the feeling that I'm not on Corellia anymore?"

[Luke stands up, his foot brushing against a strange, leatherbound book.]

"Oh hello, whats this?"

[Picking it up, Luke begins thumbing through it, seeking some sort of answers. Upon finding the guide, Luke spends a fair bit of time pouring over it, attempting to digest his situation before slowly beginning to make his way into town, feeling out with the Force]

Voice
[Luke's feeling a bit better, having recovered his clothes and lightsaber, so he begins to address the voice recorder. He takes a very calm, casual tone until he addresses the Malnosso, his voice gaining to an authoritative, icy edge.]

Good afternoon, anyone who may be listening to this. My name is Luke Skywalker, and it appears that I've been...brought here to stay for a time. I'm not sure if thats the right way to word it, but as I am unfamiliar with the local customs, please forgive me. If anyone has seen a small blue astromech droid wandering around, please let me know. Also, if any of the...Malnosso are listening, I'd like some sort of explanation on your reasoning for bringing me here.

[Luke makes his way to the Welcome Center based on the map in the journal. The Jedi knocks before entering, figuring thats polite]

Hello?

[Rydia glances up from a table, where she's sipping some hot tea and paging through her journal. Glancing up, she smiles.]

Please, come in!

[Luke enters, politely inclining his head and offering a smile.]

Good afternoon, miss. You must be Rydia. Mind if I join you?

[She moves to stand, closing the journal for now.]

Not at all! It's nice to meet you in person, Luke. Care for a hot drink?

[Luke approaches and offers a hand in greeting]

Of course, far be it for me to turn down something warm on a cold day.

[Rydia smiles and shakes his hand.]

We have hot cider, cocoa, tea...?

Well, I'm not familiar with cider, but I am rather fond of cocoa. That would be lovely. Thank you for your kindness. This...whole situation is just a little disorienting.

Cocoa, it is!

[She has some of that on the stove already, and so talks as she heads over to the kitchen to fetch it.]

You're taking this far more calmly than most I've met, I have to say. Has this sort of thing happened to you before?

[Luke can't help but laugh at that question.]

I can't begin to count the number of times I've been kidnapped and woken up on some strange planet. Tell me, are there 10 foot tall, 2-ton carnivores ridden by Dark Jedi here in the village? If not, then this is definitely a step up from Dathomir!

[She pauses after filling a mug, tempted to snag some cocoa for herself, but...nah, she still has tea. So, she emerges from the kitchen, offering the cocoa to him with a wry smile.]

No enormous carnivores here, thankfully; we have issues enough without them. You ought to be spared for a couple more weeks, though. This is the quiet part of the month, aside from all the newcomers.

[Luke takes it and sips, letting the warm drink heat him before his eyebrow raises]

Spared from what?

Well...once a month, the Malnosso tend to have a town-wide experiment, in addition to times where people are taken for personal ones. They can vary from affecting us physically or mentally, and there's no pattern as to how much or if it affects you. Someone who is heavily affected one month might be completely immune the next. And the tone of them tends to vary from silly to...well, horrifying.

Last month, for instance, we found masks all over down and were compelled to don them, only to learn that whatever mask we chose dictated our behavior. We couldn't take them off, either, though sometimes they slipped off of their own accord--usually after the damage was done. And all that was an aside to the fact that the moon kept growing in size until it breeched the barrier.

...only for all of us to awaken the next day as though none of it happened.

[Luke listens quietly, a dark, concerned expression growing on his face]

That isn't right. That's deplorable. Do you have any idea WHY they do that?

[She nods, running a hand through her hair.]

I'm sure they keep a lot of their motivations and reasoning to themselves, but from what I've heard, it supposedly has to do with finding a means to travel to other worlds. They didn't bring us here -again, supposedly- but they're certainly taking advantage of the situation, and not about to relinquish their hold over the rest of us.

And how do they hold us here, exactly?

They do so through a barrier; travel in any direction and you'll find it within a couple of days or so. It seems impassible, at least for us; it's not something that can be broken by any power we possess here, and believe me, so many have tried.

...that's another thing. Within this area, whatever powers you have are at half their strength, at best. Another way of them keeping us under control, no doubt.

[Luke definitely felt that. The Force here was present, but dim. Grasping it felt like trying to hold it through a blanket]

That...explains a lot actually. Normally I've trained to deal with and function normally through Null-Force bubbles, but this...this is something new.

...Null-Force bubbles?

Zones where the Force is dimmed, weakened, or even nullified.

[Then it hits him. The Force...may not exist for Rydia]

The Force is the source of a Jedi's power. An energy field that binds the universe together, produced by all living things. I...if you didn't guess, am a Jedi.

[She nods, eyebrow raised.]

I see...and yes, I guessed that. I just haven't met anyone else who's spoken of the Force. That could change, though.

Force aside, you'll find that there is a wide variety of powers here, among the local population. At home, I'm a Summoner...though here, I have to concentrate on my magic, instead. It's more unusual to find someone here with no powers at all, especially since the local spirits often teach their own brand of magic.

That really is different. Where I am from, very, very few people have powers. The odds of being Force-sensitive are astronomically small.

But magic doesn't really exist. What...sorts of magic do you practice?

[There's a little smile at that 'magic doesn't exist' line. Evidently, she's heard it before.]

Most of my magic is elemental; fire, ice, lightning. You'll forgive me if I don't demonstrate it inside. I also have some healing magic on hand...which does see more regular use than I'd like. Life can be chaotic here. Does your Force allow you to heal at all?

[Luke nods]
Yes, the Force allows for healing. In more ways than one. The mind, and the body. Also, I mean no offense. Magic doesn't exist in my home, I suppose is what I meant. The Force is our magic, and many tribal civilizations confuse it for wizardry.

[She nods thoughtfully.]

No offense taken. It's certainly eye-opening, learning just what is and isn't available in other worlds and how they view such powers. Regardless, I'm sure your healing talents will come in handy...especially this mind-healing. How does that work, if you don't mind my asking?
