13th Transmission: A Year in Review. [Action/Voice]

[Early that morning, Luke rolls out of bed quietly so as not to wake Ami from her Force trance and set about his day. It was a strange thing, really, getting up in the morning and heading into a routine. The week of dreamless sleep had done him a world of good, keeping back nightmares from the draft. Things were getting better. A light breakfast follows, filling the house with smells if housemates are feeling peckish.

For the early part of the day the Jedi went through his typical morning routine. A run around the village, complete with some rather extreme Parkour has him breathing pretty heavy. He stops by the Bakery for a bit of brunch, and then makes his way to the Battle Dome for a bit of practice. Around lunchtime, he can be found at Seventh Heaven and the square before heading out to the Farmland to check on Hamal before heading back to town.

Sometime in the late afternoon, he sends out a Voice message:]


Afternoon everyone, and greetings to any New Feathers who may be listening. As always, I'd like to offer whatever assistance I can. If you need help with something, please let me know.

I've got a bit of a question for anyone who's willing to listen. Is there anything particularly special you do for the end of your first year here? I arrived one year ago, today. And to be honest it's the longest I've spent on a single planet in over a decade. I've got to admit it's a bit of an odd feeling for me.

I've also been curious about people's travel experiences. Have any of you visited other worlds? Or even other continents on your own homeworld? If you haven't, why not?

And on a final note, I regret to inform everyone that Doctor Eggman has returned home again. He was a great help with the farm, and a good friend.

Syre, I wanted to thank you for the notes you left a few weeks ago, and I've got something for you as a token of my appreciation. I can bring it by your apartment, or we can meet somewhere.

[Filtered to Pinkie Pie]

Pinkie, I was wondering if you could help me with something. It involves baking, and I'm not very good at it.

[Then he returns shuts the feed.]

Oh huh, old man! Hey. [Waving. Yeah. He's still On The Job so he should be professional. He straightens himself up and puts on a ...weird smile]

How's it going?

[His eyebrows knit in curiosity]

And...what's up with that goofy grin? Are you up to some sort of prank?

[rashness]

No, I'm being professional.

[...He's a chef. This is one of the reasons he is not up front more]

Oh yea?

[He knows Rin cooks here sometimes, so that does strike him as a bit odd]

What's got you out front today?

[rashness]

Oh I'm just... yeah, break. On a break, I guess. Want something?

[Yeah Just. Let's do it that way]

Sure. If it's not too much trouble.

[He gives the demon boy an inquisitive look. Something's up...]

What's the soup today?

[rashness]

There's a chowder back there, of course some miso, also I'm trying out a gumbo - don't ask - but uh, I could make something else just in a small pan if you wanted to wait and don't want any of those.

Miso sounds good, but if you want a guinea pig for...gumbo I'm willing to give it a shot.

[rashness]

--Really, you're willing?! [He's beaming. Yes, beaming] I might actually do it right the first time for that woman if I got you testing it!

[Even if gumbo wasn't actually one of her challenges. That's not her South's cooking, it's Louisiana. But he saw it in a book and now he feels proud to have attempted]

Yea, sure. The worst that could happen is it doesn't taste good, so you have to bring me some miso, right?

[He laughs, but smiles right back]

I'll give it a shot, especially if your trying to impress some girl.

[rashness]

Yeah...! I'm definitely gunna blow her socks right off this time. [And with a determined look he heads to the back to get Luke some of the gumbo--which is a shrimp and sausage gumbo. They didn't have crayfish, so he worked with what he has. It's served over rice, but if you went in with certain expectations it might be weird. It's far from bad but there's too much onion relative to what "ought" to be in gumbo, the okra pieces are too big, and some of the spices more closely resemble something you'd expect in Latin America than Creole. Still, as stated, the flavor comes together well. Just... it's off the mark he's looking for.

Not that Luke will necessarily know this, and it's with some determined pride Rin gives him the bowl - not a soup bowl, but a wider one which has the gumbo as a top layer over the rice]

[Luke just smiles and takes a spoon to the bowl, taking a tentative bite. He's got no idea what gumbo might be outside of something Gambit said was fairly spicy and that it's often served with shrimp. His face considers the taste for a moment, his expression interested.

He takes a second, bigger bite and swallows before he says anything.]

It's pretty good, spicy and everything. I definitely like it, though maybe...these green things [He pokes at the okra with a spoon] could be cut a little finer? It's not easy to chew something this soupy, so having to bite these things makes it a bit different.

Of course, I don't know what gumbo's supposed to be other than spicy. Gambit told me about it once.

[rashness]

Gambit... I know that name that's- the explosion guy, right?

[Tinner okra, though. He nods, considering how that could indeed he helpful. He doesn't want to linger too much, but he totally is]

Yep, that's the one. He's talked about gumbo with me before, said it should be spicy. This? It's spicy.

[His nose is starting to run just a bit from the heat, really]

[rashness]

So if he knows it, I should call him! [When he... finds his journal...]

...Anyway. What's new with you?

[thefinaljedi]

Not much, I suppose. Work, mostly.

[He eats slowly, not wanting to scorch his appetite away]

The clinic's been busy, the farm needed some repairs and I've been taking care of Ami too.

You?

[rashness]

[He lost his journal this morning, but that's embarrassing... and then there's the deal with Precis, but he's told enough people and that's probably her business...]

I've got something going on, but it's her business so I shouldn't be tellin' people it. I didn't get to asking Precis about that whole shelter thing yet though.

That's alright. I was thinking it might be better to wait till spring for building anything new, honestly. With the weather taking a turn for the colder, and likely snow on the ground it'll be hard to find good times to really work.

[He shrugs]

Kinda weird, isn't it? We've been here a whole year now.

[-A year. He's been here since a month or two ago, this time. But he'd arrived in time to "celebrate" his birthday last time. Which means he arrived sometime in November.

It's been a year]

A year?! It's been a yeeeeeear?!

Yep. We came in on the same day, remember?

[A cold, nasty day in November.]

[rashness]

We did? [He thinks back on that, trying to connect it. Did he? He doesn't remember running into Luke on that first panicking day distinctly, but then his memory's never been A++ for things. He nods, eventually.

A year.]

Yea, remember? We'd only both just arrived in town.

[He shakes his head]

Been...quite a time, hasn't it?
