13th Transmission: A Year in Review. [Action/Voice]

[Early that morning, Luke rolls out of bed quietly so as not to wake Ami from her Force trance and set about his day. It was a strange thing, really, getting up in the morning and heading into a routine. The week of dreamless sleep had done him a world of good, keeping back nightmares from the draft. Things were getting better. A light breakfast follows, filling the house with smells if housemates are feeling peckish.

For the early part of the day the Jedi went through his typical morning routine. A run around the village, complete with some rather extreme Parkour has him breathing pretty heavy. He stops by the Bakery for a bit of brunch, and then makes his way to the Battle Dome for a bit of practice. Around lunchtime, he can be found at Seventh Heaven and the square before heading out to the Farmland to check on Hamal before heading back to town.

Sometime in the late afternoon, he sends out a Voice message:]

Afternoon everyone, and greetings to any New Feathers who may be listening. As always, I'd like to offer whatever assistance I can. If you need help with something, please let me know.

I've got a bit of a question for anyone who's willing to listen. Is there anything particularly special you do for the end of your first year here? I arrived one year ago, today. And to be honest it's the longest I've spent on a single planet in over a decade. I've got to admit it's a bit of an odd feeling for me.

I've also been curious about people's travel experiences. Have any of you visited other worlds? Or even other continents on your own homeworld? If you haven't, why not?

And on a final note, I regret to inform everyone that Doctor Eggman has returned home again. He was a great help with the farm, and a good friend.

Syre, I wanted to thank you for the notes you left a few weeks ago, and I've got something for you as a token of my appreciation. I can bring it by your apartment, or we can meet somewhere.

Pinkie, I was wondering if you could help me with something. It involves baking, and I'm not very good at it.

[Then he returns shuts the feed.]

[Lance is back from his trip to the mountains, and is actually wandering around the farmlands. Perhaps a bit odd for a Pokemon trainer, but he remembers this place from his... first encounter with Draco. He has an idea rolling about in his head and is pondering this as he looks over the orchards. Needless to say, it's probably a bit weird to see a guy in a cape walking around with a Dragonite, looking at apple trees.]

[Luke's moving some stuff around over by the Bantha paddock, but when he spots the caped man he waves congenially and walks over. Not many people came out this way without a reason, but men with capes and...Dragons...seemed a little out of place even here.]

Hey there.

[Indeed the man is here for a reason, even if a bit out of place. However, he was kinda hoping someone who frequented this place might show up. It seems his wish is granted as someone walks over and greets him. Lance gives a nod and a friendly smile.]

Hey there. My name is Lance, and I was just admiring the trees. You wouldn't happen to know much about growing things here, would you?

[Luke salutes the man and his dragon and offers a hand]

Nice to meet you, Lance. My name is Luke. Luke Skywalker. And yea, actually. I've been the one managing the farm here, though the mikan orchard is Nami's and Applejack takes care of the apple orchard. We actually just pulled in the harvest and were discussing what to plant next spring.

Something I can help you with?

[Lance gives Luke a firm and proper handshake.]

I see. I'm actually interested in growing some berry trees from my world, for the Pokemon here. Do you think there might be some room for them?

[Luke's eyes regard Lance's Dragonite, and he smiles]

Absolutely. If you've got the seeds, there's plenty of space. I'm sure it'll work out. Though, I've got to admit, I've never seen a Pokemon like this one before.

[Lance's eyes follow Luke's to Dragonite, and then back.]

Great. You will probably see me around here fairly often in that case.

[At mention of the Pokemon, Dragonite steps forward and wags its big fleshy paw at Luke as if he wants to shake hands too.]

Ah, this is Dragonite. There are hundreds of different species of Pokemon in my world, and these are rather rare. So I'm not surprised you've never seen one before.

Good. The weather's going to turn sour soon, but come springtime, everything should work out.

[Luke chuckles and shakes the big Pokemon's hand happily]

Well, truth be told, I've only seen two Pokemon before this one. A man named Giovanni had one called an Aggron, and it actually tilled the soil for us at the farm before he went home. And a little girl named Ikki had a Swellow.

She tells me I should meet some Pokemon trainers, so I guess it's lucky you came by.

Yeah, I was thinking it might be better to wait till it starts getting warm again.

[Dragonite beams happily at the handshake and then steps back again. He's aware that his big size can be rather encroaching on the personal space of humans. However, Dragonite notices as Lance suddenly tenses at the mention of Giovanni.]

Aggron and Swellow, I know of them but they're not native to my region. I specialize in dragon Pokemon, myself. There are many of us trainers around if you have an interest in Pokemon.

[Lance's reaction to the name is not lost on Luke, who raises an eyebrow. Sorry Lance, he's got a bit of difficulty not picking up on emotions in the Force. Psychoempathy is a double edged sword.]

You know the man?

And yes, I am pretty interested in Pokemon. They seem absolutely fascinating.

Not personally, but I do know him. He doesn't exactly have a good reputation where I'm from.

[Lance frowns and sighs, somewhat agitated at just the thought of it, however he tries to brush it aside.]

Well, if there is anything you would like to know, don't hesitate to ask.

No, I got the same sense from him, a little unsavory. He did the community here a service, though, and his Aggron seemed to be quite happy. I'd consider him to have been helpful, but he doubtless had reasons.

[Luke shrugs.]

Sorry, I may have quite a few questions then. First of all, are there ordinary animals in your world? Or are they all Pokemon?

[Lance folds his arms and hums thoughtfully at that. It's a good thing that Giovanni was no longer around, for Lance would certainly be suspicious of him. In fact, he regretted not paying closer attention to his former Viridian Gym Leader. But that was a different time, and he was a different man then. Lance's brows then lift at Luke's question.]

I'm not sure what you mean by "ordinary animals" but yes, we only have Pokemon.

That answers that, then. 'Are Pokemon are the norm in your world?', I guess would've been a better way to phrase it. but if all animals are Pokemon then, I suppose that works.

[He shrugs]

Why do you train them? They seem to form strong bonds with humans, so is there some sort of psychic link there?

[Lance has to think a bit on that and he rubs the back of his head as he does so.]

I'm no expert in Pokemon psychology, so I couldn't tell you for certain. With psychic Pokemon especially, I would think that's a possibility. Although most tend to view it as a strong friendship. To the point that Pokemon and trainer can understand each other so thoroughly that words don't always need to be spoken.

Pokemon training has been done for centuries and evolved over the course of the years. I suppose it could be see as a sort of recreation, but it's more of a way of life for people such as myself. Pokemon are integrated into our society so thoroughly that there are many things that we couldn't, or would be difficult, to accomplish without them. Some people keep them as pets, others train them for the occasional battles, they are used by our police force, assist in building, the list goes on. But many do it out of a sense of adventure and personal growth, for both themselves and their Pokemon.

That's quite fascinating. A completely different society from one like mine, that's for sure. I mean I've seen what they can do firsthand, but I hadn't quite considered the implications of having Pokemon around. But that'd eliminate the need for a great many types of machines and technologies.

[He seems very intrigued, and he's obviously working out the possibilities in his head]

Why do trainers fight though?

[Lance doesn't at all mind these questions, in fact he's rather happy that someone is so interested. While people have asked him questions before, Luke has been the most interested and enthusiastic.]

There is no simple way to answer that. Pokemon battles stem from a Pokemon's natural desire to fight. Battles are how a Pokemon grows and matures, both physically and mentally. As they gain more experience, they learn new attacks and increase in strength. It's built into them and is part of their nature. The same can be said of trainers really. Many trainers start as young as 10 years old, and go on a journey around their respective region challenging other trainers. The Pokemon League manages this by providing eight gym leaders for trainers to challenge in different cities around a region. If a trainer defeats a Gym Leader, they earn a badge. After earning all eight badges, that trainer is allowed to challenge a region's Elite Four, and ultimately the champion for the title of champion themselves.

Wait, ten year old children go out on their own to fight each other with Pokemon?

Yeah, that's right.

[Ah yes, he can understand why Luke is confused now. After experiencing the draft and hearing what other people's worlds are like, it makes sense.]

Actually, my world remains largely very safe.

Is that so? I mean, I guess with a society like that war and things are relatively unnecessary, but even just getting injured. A bad fall, things like that. Are children prepared for that? Or supplies?

[Pardon him, he grew up on a world where there's no surface water]

There are several routes that connect the different cities in a region, which is the main highway for trainers. There are Pokemon Centers and PokeMarts in each city which provide supplies and a place to rest and heal Pokemon. There is usually a smattering of trainers on each route, so even if something did happen, a trainer could easily find help.

Not to mention trainers are not allowed to go out into the wild without at least one Pokemon. They serve as protection as well.

[Yeah, Lance's world is probably a utopia compared to Luke's.]

It sounds truly odd. No crime or dangerous people to speak of either?

[Because he knows for sure that there are plenty of people, anywhere, who're willing to take from others and hurt them in the process.]

[At that question Lance puts his hands in his pockets and heaves a sigh.]

Not exactly. We do have some crime, most notably through organizations such as Team Rocket. They are the types to steal, abuse, and use Pokemon to their own ends. Mostly for world domination. Giovanni... is actually the former leader of Team Rocket.
