thefinaljedi | 9th Transmission: Walking a mile in another Jedi's shoes [Action/Voice]

Groaning, Luke Skywalker rolled over in the warm sun of an early morning. Sitting up, he squeezed the bridge of his nose, blinking all around him. He was out by the lake, and he was still in Luceti. All he could remember was being woken from sleep by a loud banging at his window, and then blackness. Something felt off, that was sure, but he wasn't sure what. Shakily, he got to his feet and dazedly made his way over to the lake.

As he...looked into the lake, her jaw dropped, eyes widening. A female face stared back with the same shocked look, clad in New Feather garb. A familiar face, that of Grandmaster Sunrider, greeted him. To his further surprise the reflection began to speak, echoing through his mind. When it finished, things were a lot clearer. And so was her mind. Turning away from the water, Nomi Sunrider stared at the journal on the ground in front of her. Deep in the back of their mind, Luke Skywalker nodded in agreement. There wasn't much else to be done, if Luke was to be in control it would tax both of them. He knew she'd slipped him into a trance to spare him the pain of experimentation, and now she was willing to take his responsibilities until whatever the Malnosso had done could be undone.

Taking the journal, Nomi opened it up and Luke sent out a message in a distinctly...female voice. They agreed that not everyone needed to know what was going on...at least right away.

[Voice]
"Greetings residents of Luceti. This is Luke Skywalker, and...I'm having a bit of a situation. I was taken by the Malnosso, and I'm feeling a little weak. I am out by the lake, and if anyone could bring a spare suit of clothing, some water, and some pain killers I would be in your debt."

Later that afternoon, and all week, Luke/Nomi can be found around the village. Its pretty weird, even for a Jedi, so...expect lots of confusion and mostly to be speaking to Nomi. Feel free to poke at them throughout the week, just denote a day.

I don't know your age exactly, [just those hints that it's a vast one] but I think you seem young.

[Ami smiles very slightly.]

Didn't you say it? Jedi live long lifespans. [Which would make 49 not too old at all.]

Yes, we do, that doesn't mean I don't have a daughter who's not much younger than you.

[She caught that]

[And Mama is about Nomi's age. But Ami's hardly going to say anything that would seem to agree that Nomi is old.]

A daughter? You must miss her.

I do miss Vima very much, as much as you miss your mother, and Luke misses his sister. But I learned long, long ago that its not something to fear for. As much as I'd like to go home, I know that I'm long, long dead.

Then some day, if we all become able to leave here... [If Nomi's long, long, dead...]

You must see being here as a second chance, sort of.

Not at all, Ami. I see this place as an unnatural, abhorrent disruption of the nature of the world. I am meant to be a spirit inside an artifact while my body is at one with the Force.

I do not mind helping Luke and the others here, and I will share my knowledge with them, however I have no fear of returning to death.

I think that's brave. [She is not precisely afraid of death herself; but of course she doesn't want to die and she's sure that in Nomi's position, as some others have, she'd cling to this chance for a bit more life.]

Its not brave. It is merely me acquiescing to the will of the Force.

You could have chosen to fight against it, or even to run away. Instead, you've chosen to face it directly.

Fighting the Force isn't something a Jedi does, Ami. We are all bound to the cycle of things.

[It might be different for Nomi - evidently, it is; but Ami has fought fate before. She doesn't find it as easy to simply consider herself bound to the cycle they all fought so hard to end.]

I think it might depend on the full situation.

All things must die, that's certain.

[she's not referring to fate itself, but rather death]

[Perhaps that's true. The immortal beings of the moon hadn't found peace until that fate was behind them, until their death - and revival. Until the long fate started by their immortal nature was ended.]

You might be right about that for most worlds. However, I think it's also natural not to welcome it. We have physicians for that reason: to be sure we do everything in our power to prevent it, until there's nothing more to do.

I don't welcome death, dear. I just accept that I am already dead.

Even if you were already dead, you're living here right now. Shouldn't you live that life for itself?

I intend to, for as long as I am able. I will not mourn my return to the Force. There is no death, only the the Force. Remember the code? I know you've seen the films.

I know it, but...

Maybe it's selfish, and I know we haven't known each other long at all, not really. But it will feel like a loss if you disappear when things return to normal.

Loss is, unfortunately, a part of life. I cannot tell you how to feel, but I know that you are strong. And you know that I will be here, in my own way.

[Strange that she can accept the idea of that being possible so easily; but then, she'd seen the princess and Usagi back home.]

In a way, yes. Luke's psyche will retain traces of mine, he burned me into his brain when he opened that holocron. I have taught him things, as well.
