Eighth Transmission: A Jedi turns 30. [Action/Voice, Forward Dated to May 24th]

Action

[Today, Luke is fairly active and out and about. The sleeping troubles caused by the possessive ghost of Nomi Sunrider were getting him down, but for the time being the ancient Jedi in his head seemed content to let him have THIS day. He wakes up quite early, and instead of his usual exercises and meditation, he can instead be found at the item shop, riffling through a myriad of junk like he does periodically, checking for objects from home. Today, he's feeling particularly lucky, and...as luck would have it he finds something. A package of cards, with strange, circular cards covered in Corellian script. Pocketing them, he makes his way around to the bakery, picking up a few pastries, and even sits down in the tea house, thumbing through the cards with a happy look on his face.

Eventually he makes his way home, stopping to pick up food from a shop. When he gets home he takes great pains to clean the entire house, with the help of R2D2 and a trio of small remote droids that he'd finally finished constructing.]

Leia, I know this transmission won't reach you, but it wouldn't feel right to not send it. Happy Birthday. Give my warmest regards to Han and the kids.

[Voice: sometime during the early afternoon]
Good afternoon everyone. I wanted to say thank you to everyone who's helped me cope with the troubles I've been having these past few weeks. They seem to have subsided for the moment.

Also, today is my thirtieth birthday. I'm not really sure what birthdays mean in your worlds, but in mine it is a day for family and friends to get together and have a meal. Most of my family is not here, but I would very much like it if people would stop by and share some sort of food with me. Anyone is welcome, as I'm always glad to make new acquaintances, and its considered auspicious to make friends on one's birthday. I'm happy to prepare food from my home, as well, should anyone be curious enough to try it.

If you are available, my door will be open to anyone today. Community House 5, Room 24. I'd very much like to have people visit.

[With that, he closes the feed, the seal of the New Republic broadcasting for a brief moment]

[Lupin smiles at the sentiment, appreciating the concern on both of their part.]

I'm all ready a little paranoid, Nomi. It's how I've stayed out of prison for the most part, and how I can still have fun. Knowing the risks actually helps keep me on my toes--the minute you lose that fear is the minute you start making mistakes. Dangerous mistakes.

You don't need to worry. Neither of you.

[A soft laugh escapes Luke?'s lips as he puts a hand on Lupin's shoulder]

Just so long as you aren't allowing your paranoia to control your life. Caution is good, but take all things in moderation. Except for cake and love.

[Luke? grins]

I'm given to understand that you spent a great deal of time working with Skywalker in another reality. Which...leads me to a question. The Malnosso shifted your mind and body, correct? Did the mental changes remain after the fact?

Cake, love, and all of those things!

[Lupin chuckles, not even certain about who he was talking to anymore. The words could have come from either, but--]

The Commander. Yeah. [Of course Nomi would pick up on that. He runs a hand through his hair, trying to think of how to best describe his current situation.] He...Yeah. Kind of. I've got this brain that holds onto data the way a kid holds onto a piece of candy--information can be more valuable than any treasure, after all. I still have all of his memories. Life has been interesting since then.

[Many relationships were altered because of that Shift, not only his interactions with Luke. He coulnd't complain about any of them, but there were times when it felt wierd.]

Interesting. So it seems the Malnosso aren't perfect in their memory erasure techniques. They did fail to erase me, as well. I felt them trying, but...managed to fend them off for a time. I know it must seem strange, speaking to a ghost in your friends body. For that you have my apologies. The Malnosso have yet to see fit to either remove me, or give me a body.

Can you tell me though, is Skywalker's Order flourishing?

It's not that strange--the Malnosso haven't done anything for Red either, but it's being managed decent enough. It was...hard getting reoriented after that Shift, but I think everythings settled back in. It's a little odd because I have his feelings too. Can't exactly look at some people the same way.

But yeah, Luke's Order is doing extremely well. It's amazing the progress they've made in a few short years. You really couldn't be in the mind of a better person. Luke's....brought hope to many, many people.

That gladdens me. When I felt the plight of the Galaxy, I wanted desperately to return. We all did. The Old Masters, even some of the Sith Lords. Balance was utterly lost. And that leads ultimately to the end of times.

Balance is everything, isn't it? I never paid much attention to the specifics. Sometimes I wondered if it was just dumb luck, honestly.

Everything. If the world falls out of balance, something has to step in to fill the void. That something is usually worse.

In this case it wasn't, though. That's the important thing.

You don't know. Luke doesn't know. Palpatine is gone, but another always takes their place.

But I didn't come out to be morbid, and scare you with visions that are as hazy as smoke. I wanted to thank you for being so mindful of Skywalker. You were right to question his spiritual troubles. I feel that I caused him great distress.

...It's a scary thing, having something suddenly different about your mind. Make that doubly so in Luke's case--you know how close to the line he walks. He has the toughest balancing act to maintain that I've ever seen! I was concerned for him, and for others here.

But, it's been a pleasure. I've always liked his story, and actually living and working alongside of him? Actually having memories in his world as one of his comrades? It's pretty awesome!

Skywalker's balancing act is a little strange. This philosophy, the Unifying Force, is an idea that's unheard of in my era. It is one I have difficulty understanding, though I suspect its a difference in worldview.

[Luke? shrugs]

I must say, too, that its odd thinking of Skywalker as the subject of a film. He's an extraordinary individual, though films have never been something I've given much thought to. Just newsreels.

It's just a thing with the alternate universes. This place is kind of a nexus for them.

...I actually don't know all that much about the differing Force philosophies. How do you think of them?

There is the traditional way, where the Light or the Dark are the only accepted practices. The Sith code follows the Dark, and the Jedi the Light. But Luke's is something new. The Unifying Force. Its made of both halves.

[Like Luke is. Lupin doesn't voice that opinion, but nods in understanding. Surely Nomi would know that much just by being in his head.]

It's that balance he walks then. No wonder he does it so well.

He must, otherwise he's doomed. But I've seen him in my visions. Luke is due for tragedy, but he'll rise to the occasion. The Galaxy is in good hands, I think. If he falters, his sister and brother will keep him in line.

Leia and Han, like always. He's all ready faced a lot of hardships, though. It's...unsettling, knowing that he'll face more.

[Especially since he couldn't be there to help, even if Red's memories never really happened in that universe.]

There is nothing to be done, though. Visions are never certain, they could even be telling me things about his life in Luceti, and not his world.

I've never been a big one for visions...but why would anything happen here? There's no really bad people here except for our benefactors and their secrets, and his connection to the Force is being messed with by the Barrier. Same with Obi and Anakin.

There is the Third Party, and if you trust our benefactors after their display in the Battle Dome then you need your head checked. They are in the midst of an internal power struggle. That much is clear. Who knows what they'll do.

And yes, our connection to the Force is weaker here, but its still strong. For all of them.

Don't mistake me--I don't trust them. I just know that they're not likely to kill us immediately, unlike the Third Party. It's why I'm making plans and staying on my toes.

Whatever happens, I want to be ready.

As do I. And Skywalker. Don't worry, we will be. I know you have plans, so, keep Luke informed. I do not know how long I will be present, but he's quite good at troublemaking.

You should know our first meeting as well as I, Nomi. You're there. That turkey was proof enough that he likes to play with the best of us!

But no worries, I'll keep Luke informed. I trust him...probably more than I should. He's Luke Skywalker though, and a war buddy. How can I not?

The turkey was rather interesting, yes. I'll admit Force Illusions were not a specialty of mine, but my daughter was quite the troublemaker when it came to using them.

And I'm glad that you trust him, even if its based solely on a connection with a film. I know your alter ego though, and I see that as quite an interesting thing. The Malnosso have created entire timestreams that are both right, and wrong. Its...most curious.

They're fun, aren't they? [The Force Illusions. Lupin grinned at the memory that he knew he wasn't going to forget anytime soon. It was one of the few memories that he hoped to keep beyond the strange veil that their new existence thrived behind. Not even the sobering comment about the Malnosso made it faulter.]

My trust in Luke is also based on those memories, even if they do prove to be fake in the end. What they can do...isn't right, but its no worse than things I've seen back at home. These guys are so hard because they wield so much power within these enclosures, and we can't do much to them from this side.

Our best bet for doing anything would be forming a group and striking during a draft or a mission, but something like that is hard to arrange. There are people who actually like it here. They have good reasons too.
