I am. My body is just exhausted. I drew on the Force very deeply, pressing my limits. Nomi did as well. We...she...used Battle Meditation, through a telepathic bond. I wasn't aware that was possible.

[He sighs]

Really Ben, I'm fine. I got bitten by a Shift Hunter, the other scratches are from moving trees and clearing debris.

[Hmm. He'll let it go. Luke had sought medical attention, he was resting, that was what mattered.

So he moved on to the next subject.]

"How did the plan work?"

Catherine remained in Luceti after the enemy retreated. They didn't find him. The majority of the decoys were taken as well, but I do not know if they've returned.

[And here comes the heavy sigh]

But, unfortunately, Catherine passed of old age shortly following the battle.

[The frown returns.]

"And it is safe to assume the Malnosso will simply reclaim him when he returns.

Still... at the very least we made the effort. We proved ourselves capable of defying the Malnosso outright. Surely that is worth something."

It is, but he seems confident that he'll be alright. I spoke to him, briefly.

[Luke nods though]

We did. And it is. We bloodied their nose a bit, and so far no consequences.

[averybadfeeling]

"No consequences for us yet. Those taken as decoys, however, might be suffering the brunt of the Malnosso's wrath at the moment."

[Obi-Wan gave him a meaningful glance at that. He had not been terribly close to Lupin, despite a general fondness for fellow, but... he knew that Luke was.]

Hence my qualifier, Obi-Wan. So Far. The decoys are, however back.

[Luke pinches the bridge of his nose, not really in the mood for Obi-Wan's nitpicking]

Lupin has yet to return. Its not lost on me what that means.

"I shall keep an eye out for his return, then. With luck, he will be well enough."

[Yeah, he totally doesn't buy that.]

And how did your mission go?

"The purpose for which the Malnosso wanted us was achieved, and well. The Third Party was repelled, the base defended, the enemy commander defeated."

[He sighs.]

"On a personal level, however, it was a failure. I was unable to learn significantly more about the Third Party, and my attempts to negotiate with the General were entirely disregarded."

You...you tried to negotiate with the Third Party?

[Luke actually chuckles a bit]

I'm sorry, that...doesn't work.

[averybadfeeling]

"All sentient beings can be reasoned with. One simply must understand their motivations."

[After a moment, he adds with a hint of reluctant admission of defeat,]

"Which I was unable to do. He spoke of a 'truth' in this world, that 'only death' would reveal. As I'm unwilling to kill myself, or anybody else, simply to discern his meaning, that isn't terribly helpful."

Their motivation is to destroy the Malnosso, and by extension...us. That seems to be the focus of their efforts anyway. Remember, we are a blight on their world.

"That I knew. It was my hope that I could use their distaste for the Malnosso as the grounds for at least a temporary alliance- one to overthrow the Malnosso and find a means of escaping this world, perhaps even preventing others from being drawn here.

Apparently, I was mistaken."

Yes, they are xenophobic to an extreme. I had the same thought initially. That was quickly forgotten when I dealt with them myself.

"That is unfortunate. Perhaps they can still be utilized to our advantage, however, even if unwittingly."

Yes, perhaps. They want us dead just as badly, though.

[averybadfeeling]

"They are far from infallible. We have defeated even the strongest among them before, and the woman that did it possessed only minor superhuman abilities. With focus and effort, I could enhance my own speed, reflexes, and resilience to match hers, I believe, and there are many within the village whose capabilities far surpass that, yourself not least of all.

I do not believe them capable of being a significant threat to us, should we breach the barrier and take control of Malnosso technology. They are simply a potentially lethal distraction. For the moment."

[Luke's met her]

The Third Party is no more menacing than a group of angry Sand People, but they have numbers and we have civilians.

[averybadfeeling]

[His expression lightens a bit.]

"Both can be adjusted for, I think. You may recall that I have a certain talent for defending against superior numbers."

Superior numbers, yes, but overwhelming numbers?

[He smiles a bit too]

We'll see. Given the chance, I'd rather just deal with them both myself.
