Too many things; but all of them have been small, like that. So I guess it's alright for now. Only... if a shift really is manipulating time, the consequences could be worse before it's finished.

[He grins and leans more against her. Preparedness only goes so far, and he'd rather just relax. The next topic is less loaded for him.]

I heard about the library mess, too. Did you talk to that...owl at all?

[It's not exactly a loaded topic, but it's a heated one for Ami.]

The books should have been left there for everyone from the start. Of course people wanted to make sure everyone could read them. [Though she isn't quite aware of how it ended...]

It doesn't justify the violence, though.

[Ami looks somewhat alarmed.] Violence? [Yeah, that would be the part she didn't know about.] What do you mean?

Apparently there was a fight at the school involving Loki and the owl.

A fight? Were they hurt? [And please tell her it at least didn't involve anyone else.]

I have no idea. I just know that classes were moved out of the school because of it.

I see. I haven't heard about injuries at the clinic, but they could have gone to the other clinic, too.

It's just as likely that there were casualties and not injuries.

How could it have gotten that bad? [As much as Ami loves books, they are far from worth killing over. Most things are. Almost all things, really.]

[Luke wants to reply with something sharp, but all he can say is:]

Because emotions ran hot. I don't know what happened, but Raine said nothing about the final result. I know there was a fight, but I feel Loki across the enclosure.

That's not a reason!

[Yes, she's showing this outburst to the wrong person, but really? Did any of them truly think what it meant to take a life? How could they have if they could do it over something so small? - yes, small, compared to a life!]

No, it isn't.

[Luke's eyes flash coldly. The whole affair is enough to make him lose his temper that much. He doesn't know all the details, but he knows enough to make an inference about what happened.]

I don't know what happened exactly. But I have a guess.

[She's not sure she wants to know, except as always, of course she wants to know. She wants to decide what to think about it from a position of at least knowing the facts.]

What do you think happened?

The owl probably attacked Loki first. He's a spirit, and in my experience they handle things poorly. There was a fight, I know that for certain from Raine. And then...

[He trails off, as hopefully she can work out the rest.]

[Yes; she knows how fights can end. It still baffles her, though. She shakes her head.]

If there was a fight like that, I don't think only he handled it poorly.

Oh, neither do I.

[Without proof, she's pretty sure she can still believe things went wrong, and it wasn't only one-sided. Although it's the owl who was in fact killed, she hasn't forgotten.

People in Luceti can be baffling sometimes. Not that she feels she has much of a finger to point. Anyway, she has one other faint worry.]

Even if he died, he'll return after awhile. This might not be over yet.

Which is why I'm going to keep an eye on this whole mess.

[He hopes to mediate it, after all.]

I'll feel better about it if you do.

[She plans to do some talking of her own, but she wants to avoid putting herself forward too much in the process, when she doesn't know the people involved very well.]

I've missed you. And I'd rather just focus on seeing you instead of talking about Loki and a giant owl.
