[Taking up the maintenance work had been just the thing Luke had needed. Reeling from the loss of Obi-Wan, he'd just wanted to be away from everyone and everything, friends and girlfriend included. A note for Ami was all he'd really left, promising to be back when he felt up to facing the future after the ridiculousness that was...well...that last shift. And he had to admit that even though it was only low orbit it had been nice to see space again. Being so long cooped up on a single planet was strange to someone who was just used to flying, and it'd done wonders to relieve pressure.

And given him an itch.

For the first day after he returns or so, Luke can be found at the farm, taking care of maintenance after the planting had been finished, while in the afternoon he's busy programming something rather complex on the Battle Dome computer. And of course, he'll be resuming his evening shifts at the Clinic and spending some quiet time at House 46.

However by the 22nd he's finished his project and on 23rd he sends out a generalized broadcast.]

Hello Luceti.

This is Luke Skywalker. It occurs to me that I've not done one of these in some time, so allow me to extend a greeting to the New Feathers from this cycle. I manage the farmland and could always use some volunteers to help maintain it. It's meant to supplement the food supplies granted to us by the Malnosso in the event of an emergency, so it's a rather hefty project that could always use more hands.

Also, I've been working on a little side project at the Battle Dome. If anyone is interested, I've managed to program some training and historical dogfight simulations from my homeworld. Flight simulations, for both X-Wings and Y-Wings, the two kinds of snubfighters I've had the most experience with. I'd appreciate any help testing them for bugs, and if anyone would like to add to them they're more than welcome to do so. If you've ever wanted to fly, it might be a good chance, and it's a skill might be useful if another draft occurs in space.

On an unrelated note, I've apparently missed my own birthday. I'm 31 now, and this is my second in Luceti. It's a little strange, having been on a single planet for so long. For those of you who do remain stationary, how do you manage it? I admit it's got me rather restless.

There do seem to be a lot of Earths. Some with space travel, others not quite there yet, and some...well...far more primitive.

But I'm glad you didn't take offense. It's a planet I'd like to visit someday.

That would be very helpful, Robert. I've worked with a few of their computers recently, but I'll be honest. I'm only so-so at this sort of work. I'm more a mechanic, so any help would be great.

[Have some faith in your friends, Luke. Look! The simulation comes to life as something resembling one of the air temples. And Aang peeks out innocently from behind a pillar. But that's not the important thing.

The important thing is the swarm of simulated pies of all different types and flavors that are hovering in midair. ....Which all proceed to home in towards Luke.

Okay, maybe Ackbar was right.]

What sort of b-beta-testing were you... anticipating requiring...? [Said as he takes some notes. It might help to cross-reference with his own simulations.]

I see. [There's another moment of silence, then:] Will you be at the Battle Dome later?

[Luke's eyes go wide for a second at the sight of the pies...]

[And he's surprised enough that he can't manage to get out of the way. So...covered in goopy, drippy, squishy pie stuff!]

Oh! Come onnnnn!

[He just stands there, looking at Aang and dripping.]

...Hello Aang.

[And then, he bursts out laughing. A fit that has him doubled over and just...almost snorting. Pies. Trap. This was so absurd!]

Simple checks to make sure it's running smoothly, and if there are any errors within the simulation itself that make it unusable. Also if there's any chance of it crashing or overloading the computers with data.

I will. In the next hour or so, if you'd like.

That sounds fine. I'll be there in half an hour or so, then.

[At least the pie innards will go with the simulation... maybe. ~~Holo-pies how do they work~~.

Aang steps forward with a cheery grin.]

Heh, one day I'll have to teach you - trade off, you know?

Anytime, really, I've sort of been having some lazy days.

Yeah, she is. The wolf isn't so bad either. Apparently I am considered part of the pack, and I'm not sure if that worries me or not.

[She freezes for a second, to buy herself the time to carefully consider what to say.]

I already understand... the things you said back then were because of what the Malnosso did.

[She's giving him a total out. She's willing to expect nothing. She seems to assume that's what he'd be worrying about. She doesn't think it's probably necessary to add that she's not pregnant.]

[He stands and walks over, shaking his head. This was something he did want. A family. A wife. Marriage. Swallowing thickly, he closes his eyes and just lets it out.]

Ami. I...meant it. Maybe not right now. Or anytime soon. But I...would love to marry you. That wasn't the Malnosso's doing. That was just them...speeding up what I do want.

Though, I'd rather have a second shot at proposing. When I'm myself and not some ridiculous parody of it.

How about in an hour or so?

[He pauses, wondering.]

Wolf? She has a wolf?

[Well, he'll be right there, waiting for you and doing some other tests and things.]

[The pies do vanish, but his grin doesn't]

Thanks, Aang. That's alright though, I missed it myself. I was on a mission. Routine maintenance stuff.

Well it's not a planet that's completely unknown to most people! Now that would be exciting. [Us Earthlings, never happy.]

And that's true, but who knows what could happen in the years to come? Jules Verne imagined that someday man could travel to the moon, or to the center of the Earth! A woman built a flying city, why not travel somewhere close to the sun?

Oh, there are charms to the uncharted places in space, to be sure. And...troubles. [Boy, every time he remembers Dathomir, the planet where rancors come from he linefaces. 3 ton super-predators ridden by psychotic Sith witches? Just a bit much.]

I'm not familiar with Jules Verne, but I don't doubt it. Anything is certainly possible given the time and the technology. which, of course, comes with time. Some worlds are farther along than others in that regard, but honestly I find some of the less developed worlds to be the most interesting.

In my e-experience, the latter scenario is... quite unlikely. I have b-built expansive simulations myself, and never once have I... o-overwhelmed the computers with data...

Of course, I am... n-not quite so certain in the case of an active simulation, s-such as yours.

The simulation sounds pretty fascinating, I admit.

Well enough. I've been keeping busy myself. And it's certainly been an eventful month.

[In all the enormity of what Luke's just said, the sheer overwhelming impossibility of it strikes her even harder than how much she wants it - and she does want it. She knows her age can't really be called old, but she wants family some day, and Luceti is robbing her of that. Because-]

I've been reading about your starships in the library, along with the Enterprise, and I'd love to get my hooves on the controls!

[ Let's ignore for a moment that hooves might make using the controls slightly difficult. ]

[It's not ideal, no. But he'll take it however he can get it. And it's odd, feeling the conflict in her. He can't help it, Ami.]
