9th Transmission: Walking a mile in another Jedi's shoes [Action/Voice]

Groaning, Luke Skywalker rolled over in the warm sun of an early morning. Sitting up, he squeezed the bridge of his nose, blinking all around him. He was out by the lake, and he was still in Luceti. All he could remember was being woken from sleep by a loud banging at his window, and then blackness. Something felt off, that was sure, but he wasn't sure what. Shakily, he got to his feet and dazedly made his way over to the lake.

As he...looked into the lake, her jaw dropped, eyes widening. A female face stared back with the same shocked look, clad in New Feather garb. A familiar face, that of Grandmaster Sunrider, greeted him. To his further surprise the reflection began to speak, echoing through his mind. When it finished, things were a lot clearer. And so was her mind. Turning away from the water, Nomi Sunrider stared at the journal on the ground in front of her. Deep in the back of their mind, Luke Skywalker nodded in agreement. There wasn't much else to be done, if Luke was to be in control it would tax both of them. He knew she'd slipped him into a trance to spare him the pain of experimentation, and now she was willing to take his responsibilities until whatever the Malnosso had done could be undone.

Taking the journal, Nomi opened it up and Luke sent out a message in a distinctly...female voice. They agreed that not everyone needed to know what was going on...at least right away.

[Voice]
"Greetings residents of Luceti. This is Luke Skywalker, and...I'm having a bit of a situation. I was taken by the Malnosso, and I'm feeling a little weak. I am out by the lake, and if anyone could bring a spare suit of clothing, some water, and some pain killers I would be in your debt."

Later that afternoon, and all week, Luke/Nomi can be found around the village. Its pretty weird, even for a Jedi, so...expect lots of confusion and mostly to be speaking to Nomi. Feel free to poke at them throughout the week, just denote a day.

Yes, but that doesn't necessarily make it too different...

[She trails off...]

Luke and I...we've begun to share mannerisms.

[Which was a worrisome development, if inevitable from this tampering.]

...no, it's not that different then. Offhand, I can't think of any other instances. Adele has completely suppressed her counterpart, and even insists that there is no similarity at all--she's wrong, but it's not going to help any.

There's probably others from Shifts that happened before we got here, but they're not something I know. We'd have to prowl the journals for information.

[Nomi quietly mumbles to herself]

Only two days

Mmm, Levarre, the failed Jedi?

[Still stroking her chin, the ancient Jedi stood up and began to pace around the room, her wings fluttering as she did so.]

I wonder...if this has happened before...

Yeah, Levarre.

[Because she wasn't his Goldie. Not any longer. He nods, and leans back into the cushions with his eyes closed. She could pace, but he didn't want to trigger another bout of vertigo by watching her.]

...we could ask Mister Law if there has been. He's been here for a while, and knows damn near everything. There might also be something in the medical records.

[Nomi nodded to Lupin, glad that he'd decided to sit. She and Luke both knew of Red's affectations for Levarre, it was quite obvious from his reaction what had happened. Even without the Force, the slowness with which he speaks, his silence, his nodding. Its all a dead giveaway]

We could. Trafalgar Law seemed quite knowledgeable when Luke talked about him...

[It was just as well. Adele's turn of anxiety and roughness smacked him hard, and he was at work trying to find the cause now...or mitigating it before she did more damage. He smiles a little at the comment, more amused at it than he should have been.]

If there's something you want to know around the village, he probably knows it. Also, I think he's the guy who runs the Dome.

No, that's not- [But it is, a little bit. It's not that Nomi herself bothers Ami, but the idea of replacing Luke does.]

You're right; it's surprising. But I understand it isn't your fault. It was the Malnosso that caused it.

[He doesn't notice her mumbling, and he quickly gathers a few bottles of water that he attaches to his belt. Then he takes off on his glider, scouting the lake for a sign of the woman.]

It is, and I know that it is. Luke...well, he wants to tell you something.

[Nomi holds out her hand, indicating that Ami should take it]

Unfortunately, our powers were drained, so he cannot project at the moment. Please, take it.

That seems correct. I will speak with him later. You have my thanks for the suggestion.

[But that doesn't stop her from pacing, a habit she'd learned from Skywalker]

Adele. Another potential problem. Has she seemed...off...to you of late?

[Nomi is resting on the lake shore, sitting in the sun in her New Feather dress. At least the Malnosso had given her proper female clothing instead of just pants. That would have been embarrassing.

When she spots him overhead, she stands, waving up at him]

Good day to you, Aang.

[A bit uncertainly, Ami looks down at her hand before finally extending it, and taking hold of Nomi's.]

Luke? [It feels strange looking at someone else and calling out to him; she has a brief memory of Chiba Mamoru gripping the princess and calling out to Usagi.

She's lucky this situation is different.]

[Luke's face forms in Ami's mind, smiling and kind as usual. If it was anyone else, he wouldn't have bothered, but Ami deserves an explanation]

Ami? I'm sorry that I'm worrying you right now. I'm alright. Really. In a few days, I'll be able to project myself through the Force. But you mustn't worry. Grandmaster Sunrider is someone you can trust. She's a great Jedi, and for the moment...it appears that we've been switched. I'm sure like all the experiments it will end with time, when the Malnosso grow tired of it. In the meantime, treat her like you would a friend, ok?

I understand it's not your fault or your intention. You don't need to apologize. And of course I'll try to get along with Grandmaster Sunrider.

[It's just a confusing situation all around; but she's seen enough strange affects from the Malnosso to have confidence it will wear off with time, and if Luke is vouching for Nomi, then the time ahead is unlikely to be dangerous because of the switch. Good.]

[He comes to a landing and he holds up the first water bottle before withdrawing his glider into staff form.]

Good day to you as well, Nomi. [A bow.]

I hope you can. She is most wise.

[And with that, the image fades out. Nomi retracts her hand, looking visibly paler than she had before]

I...shouldn't do that again for a few days.

[Nomi takes the bottle and bows deeply in kind]

Thank you, I fear I've been at least two days without water. The Malnosso are not the kindest of keepers.

[She takes a drink, a long one, draining most of the bottle]

And with this heat...

I... I didn't know.

[He quickly uncorks the second water bottle and Waterbends the water out so that it floats above her. She's free to either drink immediately from it or use it to wash her face or whatnot.]

They're monsters. Have as much as you want.

[She smiles lightly and reaches up, taking a handful and splashing it on her face before finishing off the first bottle.]

That they are. Monsters, that is. But, what's to be expected from such people? At least they left me with clothes, though. The last time I woke up on a strange world I didn't even have that...

[She pinches the bridge of her nose again, as though she's trying to shake off a headache]

Here- have some of the water. [It should at least help... a little. She wishes she'd brought juice.] Sit down awhile until you're feeling better. You can try the clothes in a few minutes. [Ami's attention is all on Nomi. It helps, actually, giving her concrete things to focus on.]

[He lifts a hand to hold his head at her question, having pondered over the same thing himself over the last few weeks.]

She has. You can blame me for that, though it might be better to blame the Malnosso. Adele... went out of her way to prove an unnecessary point, and hasn't been the same since. There's a couple of very good reasons why I never took on lovers, Master Sunrider. One was to keep her safe. The other was to keep myself safe.

...she did more damage than she probably realizes, and has made me question my reasons for trusting her as much as I do in the first place.

[Okay, yeah, that particular claim results in the fastest double-take Billy can ever recall making.]

....L-Luke Skywalker!?

[WHY IS HE A SHE]

[He nervously averts his eyes at the "clothes" comment, but he maintains his hold on the water.]

Oh. [Pause] This kind of thing happen to you often?

[Since Luke had been released Adele has made a point to visit him every morning to discuss and further contemplate that single phrase. When he'd been missing the day before she'd been...worried. But. Attempted a day's contemplation on her own. If he was still missing today, well. She'll contact Ben, contact Lupin. One of them would have answers.

'There is no emotion, only peace'. At first it was odd, antithetical, and smacked too much of apathy for her peace of mind but...the longer she considered it, the more they spoke? The more she came to understand it. She's tempered herself bit by bit. It's a slow process, and it will continue to be a slow process but they are making progress.

It's something of a relief.

And something of a surprise to look for Luke and instead see Nomi.]

...Master Sunrider?
